All work and no play is not really a good way to live life. You might be a workaholic and love to work all the time, but once in a while it is good to give yourself a break. And that little break can rejuvenate you and make you a better worker.

Now that you have taken a break from your busy schedule, the question becomes: how you spend it? Sitting on the couch and watching ESPN is no not the best way. Why not visit a place where you will be able to meet new people and experience a new culture while having a blast at the same time? Madrid, the capital city of Spain is just the place to visit. There you will not only be able to enjoy the scenic beauty but also come across some of the most amazing palaces, monuments and historical landmarks.

Dedicated to the Roman goddess of nature Cibele is the Cibeles fountain or Fuente de la Cibeles. It is one of the most significant Spanish symbols. Depicted on it is the goddess riding a chariot that is being pulled by a pair of lions. This monument was built between 1777 and 1782. It is indeed a spectacular architectural piece and well worth seeing. You will also find artists doing sketches of the sculpture. By spending a small amount you can have your portrait sketched.

Next stop is City Hall, also known as Palacio de Communications. This building is shaped like a cathedral, and once it was used as the headquarters for the postal services until 2007. This historical landmark was a museum for the postal and the telegraphic system. But later it became the city’s official City Hall. Another marvelous architectural structure is the headquarters of Spain’s central bank. There are several parts of the building and the oldest part of it was built between 1812 and 1891. Anyone can mistake this building for an old mansion.

Located opposite the bank is Palacio de Linares, a baroque palace that was built by a wealthy banker in 1873. Unfortunately a century later the building was almost in ruins. But later the palace was entirely renovated. At present it is a cultural center and the home of many Latin America arts. Rumors have it that the palace is haunted by the original owner. Reality or myth, you would have to find out for yourself.

So it is time to head out and breathe some Spanish air. Have a happy trip.
