Torrox may be hard to find on the map but it is only 5 kilometers away from Nerja. It is a great choice for a relaxing and fun holiday in the beautiful Andalucia region. Torrox has a very small population of a couple of thousand. Its strategic location between other bigger towns and cities makes it an appropriate spot as a base for traveling around the region.

Overview

Torrox is a quaint whitewashed village located at a hillside that gives it its own identity; townhouses are arrayed with colorful flowers that twirl around winding streets which may have you going round in circles as there are not many street names to guide you.

Torrox has been greatly influenced by the 7th century Moorish occupation as can be seen from the farms and shops today. The little town is filled with artistic Moorish ceramic tiles that confirm the Moorish presence found on the baroque churches and chapels in the town which exude Mudejar style and flavor originating back to the 16th century.

The little town is renowned for its blooming orange trees in the town centre that sprouts a water fountain, attractively designed and displayed. There is no lack of opportunities to taste the local fare with the many bars and restaurants available. Though the village life is slow, it is very much appreciated for its relaxing atmosphere and good company of the locals.

Torrox Costa is the area that is close to the sandy beaches where August is the most happening month with the influx of tourists. Many activities are made available for the tourists who come to bask in the warm sun and cool evenings.

Weather conditions

It can be very hot in Torrox during the summer; temperature can rise to 40C with quite a high humidity. The better seasons here are spring and autumn; the temperature is mild at around 20C with cool breezes and sunny days. There is no snow here as winter offers much sun which is good news for the sun lovers. You can only observe the snow peaked Alpujara mountains from a distance. Favorable conditions such as these make Torrox very attractive as a preferred holiday resort for the Europeans.

As more and more tourists discover Torrox, it is adjusting and reinventing itself to meet the demands of its tourists; most of whom are English people seeking refuge from the cold and harsh winter faced at home. As with other Spanish cities and towns along Costa del Sol, Torrox is fast becoming a modern tourist resort offering many holiday facilities to welcome the growing influx of tourists every year. It may soon be a thing of the past that Torrox was not easily identified on the map as it is making waves with the tourists.
